Former Rangers Captain Heads to Lightning Ahead of Conference Finals

McDonagh Expresses Gratitude for New Opportunity

In a blockbuster trade, the Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Ryan McDonagh from the Nashville Predators.

McDonagh, 33, played 928 regular-season games with the New York Rangers before being traded to the Predators in 2018. In Nashville, he recorded 12 goals and 53 assists in 191 games.

"I'm excited to be here and to see what we can accomplish together," said McDonagh. "We have a great team and I can't wait to get started."

The Lightning are hoping that McDonagh's experience and leadership will help them capture their third Stanley Cup in four years.

"Ryan is a great player and a great leader," said Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois. "He's going to be a big part of our team going forward."
